About Aurasoudut
Aurasoudut is an academic rowing race, first held in 1927!
The event has had many forms along the years. In addition to the current AurasoutuAppro bar crawl, the event has included a student festival Airofest, and rubber boat race between the chairs of the student unions in Turku. Aurasoudut has changed in the past 99 years, but in its heart have always been students.
Today, the Aurasoutu event includes the AurasoutuAppro bar crawl, the Church Boat Races, and the afterparties that conclude the day in Turku’s nightclubs. Naturally, top Finnish artists will also perform at the afterparties!
AurasoutuAppro is completed by visiting various cafés, bars, and activity points marked on the Appro bar crawl map. Participants earn stamps by completing activities at activity points or by purchasing food or drinks at these designated locations. Stamps are collected on a separate stamp card. By collecting enough stamps, you earn a degree patch! The degree patch you receive depends on the number of stamps as well as your previous degree patches, so you can earn a new patch every year.
The Church Boat Race is a friendly competition between student organisations, where 14‑person teams compete for the championship title. This is an academic rowing competition, meaning all students of higher education are eligible to participate; your city doesn’t matter.
